Temporary, Part-Time Help Wanted

The Dyer Clerk-Treasurer is seeking a temporary part-time front counter clerk from 10 AM to 3 PM, Monday thru Friday. 

DUTIES INCLUDE

Customer Service

Cash handling and receipting.

Answering phones

Filing

Manage and maintain files and records.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.

Excellent phone and communication skills.

Accurately make change for various U.S. Bill denominations in a timely manner and issue receipts. At end of shift balance cash deposits or monies collected.

Prior Experience in customer service and office responsibilities.

Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office, Word and Excel.

Excellent written and verbal skills.

Highly organized multitasker who can work well with the public.

Beginning Salary $10.60 per hour.

2018 - 2019 Infrastructure Projects

The following projects are under construction this fall, some of these will cause disruptions to traffic.

Sheffield Avenue – Main Street to Route US 30 and 213th
This long awaited project has finally gotten underway. It was delayed by the NIPSCO utility work in the area. In addition to resurfacing, extensive repairs have been made to curbs and storm repairs. We have made extensive repairs and extensions to sidewalks.

Berens-Monaldi
Year 1 will be completed within 30 days. A gas main conflict at South Street and Lakewood caused the recent delays. This is being corrected by NIPSCO and final surface will then be applied.  Completion of Phase 2 of this project is scheduled for 2019. When completed, over $3 million will have been invested to alleviate storm water problems. Over 50% of this project in road work, 43% is storm, the remaining being in water and sanitary.

Northgate Subdivision
This subdivision, Main Street to 213th, Sheffield to Calumet, has long had problems with drainage and other aging infrastructure. The Town has addressed this issue by completing water main, storm and sanitary sewer inventories. In addition, all streets have a PASER (condition) rating. This information is being used to begin these long awaited repairs. This project will begin in the spring.

Y2019: Madison Avenue 213th north to 210th
This project has been awarded and is anticipated to begin in the Spring.

Y2019: Pierce, Fillmore, 205th, and 206th
The design phase of this areas should be completed this winter to allow the improvements to begin next year.

On March 1, 2018, our office received the following letter from the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD).

"The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD), in cooperation with the United States Army Corps of Engineers, have prepared a combined Final Environmental Impact Statement/Record of Decision and Section 4(f) Evaluation (FEIS/ROD) to evaluate the West Lake Corridor Project. The FEIS/ROD has been prepared pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (42 USC § 4332); Efficient Environmental Reviews for Project Decisionmaking (23 USC § 139); Council on Environmental Quality Regulations for Implementing the Procedures of the National Environmental Policy Act (40 CFR Parts 1500-1508); FHWA/FTA Environmental Impact and Related Procedures (23 CFR Part 771); Section 4(f) requirements (49 USC § 303 and 23 USC § 138) and regulations (23 CFR Part 774); and Clean Water Act (33 USC § 1251 et seq).

The West Lake Corridor Project is an approximately 9-mile south extension of the existing NICTD South Shore Line (SSL) commuter rail service between Dyer and Hammond, Indiana. The Project would end just east of the Indiana-Illinois state line, where Project trains would connect with the SSL to travel north to Chicago. The West Lake Corridor Project includes four commuter rail stations and a maintenance facility/layover yard.

The Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the West Lake Corridor Project was issued on December 16, 2016, with a public comment period occurring between December 16, 2016 and February 3, 2017. The DEIS evaluated the environmental, transportation, social, and economic impacts associated with the proposed transportation improvements in the West Lake Corridor, which would serve the Towns of Munster and Dyer, and the City of Hammond in Lake County, Indiana.

The combined FEIS/ROD includes discussions of changes since the DEIS, and responses to substantive comments received during the DEIS public comment period. Responses are in the form of clarifications and references to sections of the FEIS where issues raised are addressed, and factual corrections have been made. The ROD states FTA's decision, identifies the alternatives considered in reaching the decision, and describes the means to avoid, minimize, or mitigate impacts. Mitigation plans, including enforcement and monitoring comments, are included in the ROD. The Final Section 4(f) Evaluation is included in the combined FEIS/ROD.

E-Cycling Program

Just a reminder that the town developed an e-cycling program for its residents last May. Dyer residents are able to drop off things such as televisions, computers, printers etc. that waste haulers can no longer take. read more...
