The Town of Dyer, Indiana was founded in 1855 and incorporated in 1910.  During its history, the Town of Dyer has established itself as a progressive community that maintains a vision of the future while building upon a strong foundation of past accomplishments.

The Town of Dyer has the proud distinction of having been listed on the
"100 Best Places to Live in the US" by CNN and Money Magazine.


In 2015, the Town of Dyer was ranked #15 in the State of Indiana
as "The Best Place for Young Families" by Nerd Wallet.

Additionally in 2015, the Town of Dyer was ranked
as the 9th Safest City in Indiana by SafeWise.

HomeSnacks Ranks Dyer #9 in Safest Places In Indiana

HomeSnacks released its ”Safest places to live in the Hoosier State" report this week. To compile this report, HomeSnacks looked at the hard numbers from the FBI's most recent report of crime (2014). Specifically, they analyzed the FBI's Uniform Crime Report which summarizes the number of property crimes and violent crimes in each city per year which all have a minimum population of 5,000 people. They used three criteria:

  • Violent crimes per capita (murders, assaults, rapes, armed robberies)
  • Property crimes per capita (thefts, burglaries, motor vehicle thefts)
  • Total crimes per capital

Town-Wide Garage Sale 2016

The 2016 Town-Wide Garage Sale will be held on Saturday, August 27th, from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM at Northgate Park. Spots for Dyer residents are $10 and spots for non-residents are $15.

Dyer Dog Park

Registration for 2016 Dyer Dog Park memberships has started! Located at Central Park, the three acre facility includes a small dog area and a large dog area. Complete with benches, dog waste stations and shelters in each area the dog park is open year round from dawn to dusk. Each area of the park includes its own water fountain for the dogs (but is only on seasonally during the warmer times of the year).

Individuals and their dogs visiting the dog park must be registered at the Dyer Town Hall Parks and Recreation office. To register the annual fee of $60 per resident dog or $108 per non-resident dog must be paid along with proof of required vaccinations. Register now for 2016! Additional dogs do receive a discounted rate. Please read through the attached dog park registration packet which includes much more useful information, details on dog park requirements and the necessary registration form.

Central Park refined Master Plan

The Dyer Park and Recreation Board recently approved a refined master development plan for Central Park. This long term development plan for the park shows the ultimate goal of providing recreation spaces for all ages while also being aware of the parks location between future commercial development and existing residential development.
