This $1.3 million project is being funded by a 50% grant from the Community Crossing Matching Grant from the Indiana Department of Transportation. This work will be done outside of the County’s bridge project. There will be moving traffic restrictions and delays.
Hart Street repaving has been suspended. If you have driven south of Rt. 30 you have noticed that the in-place surface is not the smooth surface that we demand in our specifications. We stopped the contractor’s work while we investigate what caused the problem. The northbound lane is smooth. The issue at hand is determining what is different? Until we have an answer no work will be allowed.
Engineers and staff are currently reviewing the work in Berens as a final step. Over $3 million has been invested to alleviate storm water problems. Over 50% of this project in road work, 43% is storm, the remaining being in water and sanitary.
This subdivision, Main Street to 213th, Sheffield to Calumet, has long had problems with drainage and other aging infrastructure. Hart St./ Sheffield Bridge Project
We still do not have a bid date from Lake County Highway for the replacement of the Hart Street Bridge south of RT30. Traffic will be restricted to northbound on Hart/Sheffield, except for emergency vehicles. There will be a temporary emergency signal to protect emergency vehicles going south.
RT30 Median- approaching Hart Street
The State Department of Transportation has approved our request to modify the non-mountable median on RT 30 approaching Hart Street. This work will be done this fall, by local contractor J&J Newell. It will require some reduction in lanes during the construction. When it is completed it will extend the left turn and help west bound traffic flow. The project will increase the turn lanes stacking capacity by approximately ten vehicles. The project will cause traffic congestion for two weeks. Please be careful when driving during this project.
Calumet Avenue- Munster
Beginning May 4th drivers using Calumet Avenue in Munster will begin to experience lane reductions and delays as preliminary work begins on the 45th Street Grade separation. The initial lane closures are anticipated to last until November. Look for updates in the NWI Times. We will update the Dyer Web site and Facebook page as new information becomes available. The full scope of the project is listed on the Town of Munster’s website at www.munster.org.
